Knowing your clients expectation and functionality they want before mounting the tv. its pretty self explanitory but mounts have size and weight ratings. make sure your mount is appropriate for the TV. new small flat screens 42″ & under only need a single stud mount and you’ll get more flexiblity with that as well. know your stud locations in respect to tv mounting location this will dictate the width of the wall mount bracket. If your mount bracket is not longer than 16″ it wont work on tvs larger than 42″. Know what you want your mount to do before getting a mount. flush agians the wall, tilt option, full motion option.
Mounting locations
where you can mount your tv depends on many factors. types of walls drywall, lath and plaster, brick, concrete, tile, wood or metal studs all require differnt mounting methods. are the studs 16 or 24 inches to center? if 24″ most mounts wont work and using drywall anchers are not the solution, you need know a secure solution for this. Mounting above a fireplace. it is highly recommended to not mount a tv above a fireplace that does not have a mantel. you dont want ruin your $2000 oled because of direct heat. mounting hight is really important. make sure that your viewing center to slightly higher when sitting down. this will strain you kneck and want it adjusted in notime.
Finding the studs
Its important to know how to identify the center of a stud. you drive lag bolts in. if you mess up and get the edge of a stud that could be liability. metal studs are not always secure. there is a correct option for this most diyers dont know.
using the correct hardware
use the hardware that comes with the mount unless you are mounting into differnt materials. Never use drywall anchors that come with these kits.
Behind the walls
know your environment before you start drilling and driving in bolts. know whats on the other side of that wall. make sure there is no plumbing or water lines. make sure there are no electric wires behind the location.
Wire concealment
like above know your environment, a lot of mistakes are made with this. if your mounting on a common wall this wall will be thicker you will have issues with old-work junction boxes and snaking wires. most new homes will have fire blocking not knowing that and having a game plan before hand will create a problems. make sure you have electriciy around the area you are mounting. its easy to mount a tv but running new line and installing recepticles are not recommended if you dont know what you are doing.
